FAQ
SHIPPING:
Do I still need to pay for shipping when I purchase the satchels?

We do offer Free Postage if you order AUD $100 or more Kindness Pack parcels. We have chosen to do this to thank you for supporting Kindness Pack and most importantly, our charities. However, if you would prefer to give a little extra and effectively forgo the Free Postage option, you are able to donate an extra amount of your choice at checkout.

ENVIRONMENTAL:
Are compostable packaging and biodegradable packaging the same thing?
Compostable and Biodegradable are not exactly the same- let us explain why!
Home compostable products are made from all-natural ingredients, which means they are made to go back into the dirt we stand on. Biodegradable products will break down to something smaller but still contain plastic; they will never fully disappear back into our earth and still leave a negative footprint. Both are better than plastic! We use the word biodegradable in conjunction with home-compostable- because many people are more familiar with the term. It’s accurate but we take it a step further- our products ARE biodegradable but also HOME COMPOSTABLE!
Can I still use printed labels on the satchel or is it better not to?
Most printed labels are not home compostable and will not break down. This means you should remove the labels from your packaging before you add your used Kindness Pack to your compost.
We are working hard behind the scenes to develop our own home compostable labels! Watch this space…
I’ve damaged the instructions on how to home compost my Kindness Pack satchel. Can you please tell me the steps again?
Absolutely!
- Cut off any glued/sticky parts from parcel, like the postage label or stickers from postage; these cannot be composted. Put these in your regular garbage bin.
- Put the rest of the satchel in the compost bin with some dirt. Job done!
Handy tip: if you want it to break down faster, and be extra environmentally friendly, cut your satchel up into strips. Voila!
How easy is it for people to follow the composting steps?
We’ve made it as simple as possible. No one likes a product where there is a million steps to follow! It gets too time consuming, and we want people to feel like it’s easy and speedy to compost our products.
We have just TWO steps to follow:
- Cut off any glued/sticky parts from parcel, like the postage label or stickers from postage; these cannot be composted. Pop them in the garbage bin.
- Put the rest of the satchel in the compost bin with some dirt. Job done!
Handy tip: if you want it to break down faster, and be extra environmentally friendly, cut your satchel up into strips. Voila!
Yep, that’s it! How simple is that?!
What happens if you don’t compost Kindness Pack packaging, and instead put it in the bin/landfill?
There is a positive and a negative to this one.
Positive: It will still break down in the same way it would if you were to put it in your compost.
Negative: Due to how the process of how landfill works, it will contribute to methane production. It will also take longer for the product to breakdown.
When in doubt, compost it out!
Can they go in my kid’s worm farm?
Great news! Yes, they can! If you don’t have a compost bin, pop it in with the worms. Before you do this, please remove any extra labels or stickers that have been stuck onto the outside of the package. Remove the sticky glue strip from the flap, and pop these in the bin. Then cut your Kindness Pack into lots of tiny pieces and pop it in your worm farm. We have worked closely with our amazing manufacturer to ensure our parcels are fully home compostable (certified AS5810), as shown on our products. In addition, one of the tests they do to get this certification includes a worm toxicity test. Your worms will live a happy and harm-free life from our satchels!
What happens if the postie leaves my parcel in the rain?
Kindness Pack satchels are waterproof to protect your parcels if they are left in the rain. We have made them as durable as possible, whilst being as environmentally friendly as possible. This is true within reason; if your parcel is left outside in the elements for a LONG time e.g. weeks, it will of course begin to break down. Treat your parcel with kindness and keep it safe!
Is there any part of the satchel I can’t compost?
We are always working on improving our environmental aims so we can leave behind a healthy footprint and send kindness to future generations. We are constantly working with our incredible manufacturing team to test new products and options. We haven't yet found an amazing plant-based glue to seal the packages- so this is the bit that is not compostable. We promise, it's going to happen- we are aiming for 100% home compostability! For now, so we can keep your parcels safe and watertight, please cut off the strip of glue and kindly place it in your rubbish bin, before composting the rest of the pack.
How do you offset your carbon footprint?
We donate to offset our carbon footprint emissions for the freight for every parcel that we send to you and shipping to your customers using Kindness Pack. Our donations are based on Greenfleets standard for e-commerce delivery offsets for the amount of parcels sent.
Will it take my Kindness Pack long to break down?
It won’t take long at all, because your Kindness Pack is primarily made of plant matter. It will break down within 180 days in your home compost system, and within approximately 90 days for a commercial compost set up. It really depends how much organic matter and how many worms are hanging out happily in your compost bin!
What do the certification logos on the bags mean?
The certifications on our bags represent the following:
- Home Compostable (AS5810)
- Commercially Compostable (AS4736)
It matters to have certifications. Our bags have been manufactured by the world’s leading environmental manufacturer, and they have undergone rigorous testing to ensure they meet all standards.
